The Women of Rose of Sharon Church

The Plainfield "Sharon Evangelical Church Women’s Society" was founded in 1900 with 42 members. The group was formed to help the heathen in Africa and the new Red Bird Mission in Kentucky.
In the beginning, the ladies worked hard in gathering good used clothes, packing them in barrels, and shipping them to Africa. They supported Red Bird Mission by sending blankets, clothing and layettes. Over the past 100 years, they have collected personal care items, used books, and donated craft items for sale in the Mission Store to further the Mission’s work. They even collected soup labels to be redeemed toward the purchase of new vans.
They have rolled bandages and donated personal items through two world wars and the Great American Depression. They supported cancer patients before the advances in medicine dared offer any hope. They continue to support the hungry and the poor in our world through their descendent, incarnations including the "World Service Women’s Society" and today’s "Sharon Church Women."
Their biggest fund-raiser is the "Chicken and Homemade Noodle Supper" the Friday before Ash Wednesday. Their "Soup and Salad Bar" comes along just before Thanksgiving. The "Spring Banquet" arrives before Mothers Day."

Through these fund-raisers and other activities, the Women of Rose of Sharon Church continue to be a force for the Lord’s work in the world.
