Heifer Project In December of 1996, Rose of Sharon United Methodist Church accepted the challenge of launching an ark. No, we didn’t begin by pricing cypress wood. We would not be so ambitious as Noah (Genesis 5-10). Rather than “two of every kind,” we only provided 15 pairs of animals to provide food and income for a few hungry families across the world. The animals were sent (along with training and community development), around the world to help families start a journey toward a secure future. 30 families now maintain a sustainable source of food and income. It took a while, but in December of 2000, we were able to send off our donation. Many church groups, including the Sharon Church Women, Sarah’s Circle, and Sunday School all pitched in. |
